Israel is assessing the consequences of Houthi control over Bab al-Mandab, the strait that channels much of the world's maritime traffic between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, according to Al Jazeera. The Qatari outlet reported on the Israeli reading of the situation as the Yemeni group consolidates its position along the waterway.
The assessment comes as the Houthis have moved from an isolated faction to a force exercising control over the strait, a shift described in reporting cited by DW. Sky News Arabia reported a field development at Bab al-Mandab, saying the Houthis had taken control of the Kahbub mountains, a range overlooking the area.
The strategic stakes extend beyond Yemen's borders. Russia's embassy in Yemen said it is concerned about threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, according to a report carried by Ajl. French newspaper L'Opinion, reviewed by Monte Carlo Doualiya, described what it called a resounding failure of the American-Saudi coalition in confronting the Houthis.
